Banríon
Irish songwriter banríon (pronounced ban-ree-un), aka Róisín Ní Haicéid, releases her debut album untarnishing today, Friday 16 October 2026. The nine-track record marks a bold new chapter for the artist, moving from the full-band indie-rock sound of her earlier work towards a more intimate, expansive and emotionally revealing approach to songwriting.
Beginning in 2020 as a DIY indie-rock band, banríon quickly established a presence in Dublin’s music scene, releasing two acclaimed EPs and earning support slots with NewDad, Lime Garden and Pillow Queens, alongside appearances at festivals including All Together Now and Other Voices. Previously described by Hot Press as “blazing indie rock”, the project now enters a more personal era, with Ní Haicéid stepping forward as a solo artist.
Inspired in part by songwriting workshops with Adrianne Lenker and Florist, as well as the transition from band to solo project, untarnishing finds beauty in the imperfect, the remembered and the unresolved. Across nine songs, Ní Haicéid explores love, loss, belonging, self-forgiveness and the complicated experience of growing into oneself. Blending confessional writing with a gentler sonic palette, the album captures an artist embracing change without losing the wit, candour and emotional intensity that have always defined her songwriting. - Journal of Music review
