During his mother's stroke recovery, Cian Nugent's mother struggled to speak and would often repeat the phrase "She brings me back to the land of the living." This phrase later became the title of his fourth album, his first release in seven years. Nugent explains that these eight songs serve as a way to process change and accept new futures. This album is not for those seeking instant gratification of catchy three-minute pop songs. However, Nugent's blend of psychedelia, folk, and Americana slowly grows on the listener and is well worth the wait. Each song, from the contemplative slide guitar in "The Sound Of Rain," to the J.J. Cale-inspired strokes in "Siamese Sharks," and the laid-back feel of "Dogs In The Morning," is a true testament to Nugent's musical growth.
