A worldwide reputation
"Limerick has a renowned worldwide reputation when it comes to original live music.
As Mayor, this city's and county's art and music scene is vitally important as it creates a more attractive, fun and vibrant city as I have layed out in my Mayoral programme. Literally two years after the first volume in this series it's amazing this city can reflect on how the music scene has moved on and to highlight the next generation of local talent.
On Volume 1 most of the artists were on record for the first time. Since then, others have gone on to their debut vinyl releases and now this next selection is doing same, with vinyl releases this year and beyond. It's a great historic document to hold a record in your hand."
- John Moran, Mayor of Limerick.
Supporting grassroots Irish music
I know the vital role that grassroots music venues play in Ireland's cultural and creative ecosystem. Our small independent spaces like The Commercial in Limerick are the lifeblood of our music scene, where emerging artists take their first steps, hone their craft and connect with audiences. They are also central to the vibrancy of our towns and cities, bringing people together and supporting local economies
I introduced the Grassroots Music Venues Scheme to protect and sustain these vital spaces. By helping with rising costs, equipment, and improvements to facilities, we as a government are investing directly in the future of Irish music. Every major artist starts somewhere, and often that "somewhere" is a small local venue. Supporting them ensures the next generation of Irish talent has the opportunity to grow, perform, and reach their full potential here at home.
