On 10 October, MayKay will release her first solo album on GrainStore Records. Known for her fearless energy as the frontwoman of Fight Like Apes and for a string of collaborations across the Irish music scene, she’s now taken a step she never thought she would.

“After years of great bands and deadly collaborations, I’ve finally done the solo thing,” she says. The album has, as she puts it, been “a long time coming,” and follows the release of ‘Busted’, a song that tackles the way older men influence younger men. It’s a collection that reflects two decades of making music, but still manages to feel like a surprise, even to its creator.
