Experience the enduring legacy of Horslips with Madfish's new 2LP set 'Horslips - At The BBC'.
Horslips made a unique impact on music history. Starting out in the early 1970s, they essentially pioneered 'Celtic Rock' by blending Irish traditional tunes with British and American rock influences, creating a sound that feels both classic and groundbreaking.
This 2LP set features a handpicked collection of performances recorded by the BBC, showcasing the band’s influential peak in the 1970s as well as their strong comeback on stage many years later.
The first disc captures Horslips at their best during a 1974 BBC Radio 1 In Concert broadcast, bringing to life the legendary energy of their iconic albums 'The Tain' and 'The Book Of Invasions'. Songs like "Dearg Doom," "Charolais," and "You Can't Fool The Beast" showcase their creativity and passion. This record also features sessions from Sounds of the 70's and The John Peel Show, preserving the raw brilliance of one of Ireland’s most innovative bands at the height of their creativity.
The second disc takes us to 1979 with a powerful return to Radio 1's In Concert, featuring tracks like "The Power & The Glory" and "Sword Of Light" that highlight the band’s growth while honoring their original sound. The album wraps up with rare BBC Radio Ulster (2011) and BBC NI (2019) recordings, offering a touching tribute to Horslips’ lasting influence and final moments, including the reflective "Sideways To The Sun."
Pressed on double black vinyl and housed in an elegantly crafted gatefold sleeve, 'At The BBC' honors a band whose impact resonates even today. The mastering was handled by Eroc in Germany alongside Cormac O'Kane, who also mastered the well-received 2023 Horslips box set 'More Than You Can Chew'.
